The babies will be 5 weeks old tomorrow. They are all growing so fast, barking , playing, and growling . They are not completely weened yet but should be by next week. They are eating soft puppy food well. Will be getting 1st shots this weekend and will be wormed next week. Should be ready to go to their new homes around July 10th. I have one male {don't know which male yet} and the black and tan female available for purchase.

on the buyers pick of the 2 males. She is coming

to meet the little guys this weekend and I should

know which one will be available after that.

Baby update

All the babies and Mom are doing great. They will be 3 weeks old tomorrow. They have opened their eyes, are growling at each other and are nursing well. Trying to get out of the welping box but Bailey {Mom} and Lucy{Aunt, our other LH dachshund} keep them in line. They will only be able to do that for about another week or so ! They are just as cute as can be! We hold them often and allow our other dogs to be with them at times. I thought the two dark ones were going to be choc/tan but they are black/tan with pretty markings on their faces. I have a deposit on the red female and a deposit for buyers choice of the males, which she will probably take the red male so that leaves the male and femal blk/tan pup. I plan to start them on puppy mush this weekend which should start the weening process.

Bailey delivered her babies last Thursday morning. There are two females and two males. All are eating well and growing good. Mom is doing well and is very attentive to them. These pups will be ready to go to their permanent homes around July 10th.

Bailey is expecting a new litter any day now. Janet Welch bred her with Oliver back in March and she is due any day now. Oliver was the stud of her last beautiful litter.

The pups are almost 5 weeks old now. They are playing, barking, growling, eating well and will be ready to go to new homes after Oct 23rd. The 2 red males are $350 and the black and tan female is $400. They will have had their 1st shots and the litter is AKC registered.

Dachshund Colors
Did you know that there are more color/coat combinations available in dachshunds than in any other breed? Sometimes having so many options makes a decision even more difficult. Aesthetics, or eye appeal, is an important consideration, but should be secondary to personality.
The colors available in dachshunds are:
Red, Black & Tan, Solid Black, Black & Cream, Blue & Tan, Chocolate, Chocolate & Tan, Cream, Fawn (Isabella) & Tan, Wheaten, Wild Boar
The patterns available in dachshunds are:
Brindle, Brindle Piebald, Dapple, Double Dapple, and Piebald
Add to the mix the three coat types and the two sizes, standard and miniature, and the list of possibilities is mind-boggling!

Choosing a puppy...
Coat Type
You probably already know which coat type you prefer, but did you know that each coat type also has its own distinct personality traits? It's fun to learn about the differences and maybe one day you'll be adventuresome and try something new.

Smooth coat is the most common. It is especially popular in the southern states because of the summer heat. The smooth coat is virtually care free...just an occasional bath is all that is needed. A smooth coated dachshund is playful and loving.

Wire coat can range from soft and curly to stiff and spiky. Both coats can be left as is, plucked by hand (such as wire dachshunds shown in competition), or shaved. It's really just your preference. The wire coat sheds very little. They are the clown of the dachshund world. They are feisty, amusing, playful and protective.

Long coat is the regal, elegant look. They do shed somewhat, but with occasional brushing it is minimal. Their temperament is usually softer, extremely loving, and very sensitive to your moods.

New Puppies born 9/11/07

Our red miniature LH dachshund, Bailey, gave birth to 3 healthy pups on 9/11/07. 2 males and 1 female. The female is going to our breeder and the 2 little males will be for sale. They should be ready to go to their new home by late October, 2007. The dame is a red LH mini {weighed 6lbs 9 oz at the time of breeding} and the sire is a choc and tan LH mini {Oliver, from Welch Dachshunds in Dayton, TN weighs around 10 lbs} so the babies shoud stay small. All the babies are healthy and nursing well and we hold each of them daily.
